SDGs in action.

How we impact communities in Rwanda.

No Poverty

EcoPlanet helps alleviate poverty in Rwanda by creating rural employment, reducing household expenses and expanding opportunities to earn income. Restoration activities provide local workers with wages that support everyday needs, while household vegetable gardens reduce the amount families must spend on food. Through practical training and participation in sustainable gardening cooperatives, community members can improve their production, sell surplus crops and diversify their sources of income.

Zero Hunger

EcoPlanet strengthens food security in Rwanda by helping households and schools produce their own vegetables. Household vegetable gardens enable families to grow fresh produce close to home, reducing food costs and improving access to vegetables. EcoPlanet has supported the establishment of growhouses at 5 Early Childhood Development Centers, providing for the production of vegetables for school meals while supporting environmental education for learners and teachers.

Quality Education

EcoPlanet supports environmental education and practical skills development in the local communities we operate in. Teachers from five schools have been trained in climate change and sustainable gardening, while community sessions build awareness of climate impacts and the importance of restoring riparian buffers. Local farmers and community members also received practical training in regenerative agriculture and soap production, strengthening livelihoods and local resilience.

Gender Equality

EcoPlanet actively promotes the inclusion and advancement of women across our workforce and leadership teams. Women currently represent 34% of the team, supporting our operational implementation and management functions in Rwanda.

Clean Water and Sanitation

In partnership with the Rwanda Water Resources Board and district authorities, EcoPlanet restores degraded riparian buffers with bamboo. This vegetation helps stabilize riverbanks, reduce erosion and limit sediment entering waterways, supporting healthier and more resilient freshwater systems. Rainwater-harvesting infrastructure at community growhouses also supports efficient water use for local food production. In addition, EcoPlanet has supported the installation and extension of piped water across kilometers to 2 communities, helping improve access to clean water for schools and households.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

EcoPlanet promotes fair and inclusive employment across our operations. Workers performing work of equal value receive equal pay, regardless of gender, and all employment practices are guided by transparency, non-discrimination and respect for workplace rights.

Responsible Consumption and Production

EcoPlanet supports community-based enterprises in Rwanda that develop practical skills and create income opportunities for vulnerable households. Initiatives such as regenerative agriculture and soap production enable communities to produce and sell goods locally, helping stimulate rural economies. EcoPlanet also promotes the conversion of organic waste into compost and worm tea for use in household gardens and regenerative farms. This circular approach reduces waste, returns nutrients to the soil and helps communities create value from locally available resources.

Climate Action

EcoPlanet’s riparian restoration program in Rwanda supports climate action by planting bamboo that captures and stores carbon as it grows. Restored vegetation stabilizes riverbanks, reduces erosion and strengthens the resilience of waterways and surrounding communities to climate-related pressures. Through education and stakeholder engagement, we also build local understanding of climate change and the importance of protecting and restoring riparian ecosystems.

Life on Land

EcoPlanet restores degraded riparian landscapes in Rwanda with bamboo and indigenous trees, improving biodiversity and rebuilding habitats for local fauna. This work supports the recovery of riparian ecosystems and strengthens the health of Rwanda’s watersheds.

Partnerships for the Goals

EcoPlanet works in partnership with the Rwanda Water Resources Board, district authorities and local communities to restore degraded riparian landscapes and support the implementation of our community-based projects. These partnerships combine institutional support, technical expertise and local knowledge, enabling restoration to be delivered at scale while strengthening community development.
